Bal Atwal
Registered Clinical Counsellor
Bal Atwal is a Registered Clinical Counsellor who brings a combination of empathy, cultural understanding, and years of professional expertise to her work. With a Master of Counselling Psychology degree and over five years of experience supporting individuals through crisis and trauma, Bal creates a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can feel truly heard, validated, and understood.
Bal draws from trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based approaches, integrating evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness practices. She offers practical tools that help clients build resilience, deepen self-awareness, and regulate emotions, while fostering meaningful, lasting change.
Before becoming a therapist, Bal worked for nearly a decade as a Legal Assistant with Crown Counsel, where she supported individuals navigating the justice system during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. This experience sharpened her ability to remain calm under pressure, communicate with compassion, and support people through high-stress and emotionally charged situations—skills she now brings into her counselling practice.
As a Canadian-born South Asian therapist fluent in English and Punjabi, Bal has a deep understanding of cultural identity, intergenerational dynamics, and the unique pressures often experienced within the South Asian community. She is committed to culturally responsive care that honours her clients’ diverse backgrounds, values, and lived experiences.
Bal’s work is rooted in empathy, cultural sensitivity, and authenticity. She is passionate about helping clients reconnect with themselves, navigate life transitions, and build the confidence to move forward with clarity and purpose.
